Milestones contains a wide range of genres, well-balanced between literary and expository, fiction and non-fiction informational texts. These are plays, diaries, web pages, textbook selections, reference articles, poetry, essays, song lyrics, to name a few.

In the Text Genre section, students are taught the features of the genre.

One or more of these features will be examined in more depth after the reading, in the Literary Element or Text Element section of the Chapter.
