Independent Reading is key to reading success. The annotated bibliography includes a variety of genres, thematically linked to the Unit theme, as well as a selection from the Milestones Reading Library which relate to the chapter readings. Students are encouraged to select books of their choice.

Share this list with your school or community librarian, to ensure students have access to the titles.

Encourage students to set reading goals and to read more than one book.

Suggested activities for Independent Reading include writing summaries and reviews of the books they read and talking about their books with a partner or reading circle.
