Each Chapter Part B section consistently presents Academic Vocabulary, Reading Strategy, Text Genre, and Text Element in conjunction with a reading passage.

In the Chapter Part B sections, the genre of the reading alternates from literary to expository within each Unit.

Literary genres such as drama, biography, poetry, letter, and myth, and expository genres such as textbook extracts, newspaper articles, internet texts, and magazine articles are included in Milestones Introductory California Student Edition.

Reacting to and talking about these readings is also a critical skill for mainstream academic success.

A Listening and Speaking section is included in Chapter 2 Part B for students to develop these skills.
