The reading library titles are adaptations of classics which most students read at some point in their academic career.
These are the titles for Book B: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Oliver Twist, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Prince and the Pauper, Eleanor Roosevelt, and The Mutiny on the HMS Bounty.
The illustrated nature of the selected titles helps students comprehend, as each illustration portrays a significant point in the plot which appears on the opposite page.
Students are asked to record their response to their independent reading in their Independent Reading Record.
You will find the instructions on use of this in the Teacher's Edition.
You will also find a sample template for the Independent Reading Record on the Teacher's Resource CD-ROM.
Written summaries and book reviews are assigned.
Students are asked to retell the story orally.
Literature circles can be formed, with everyone in the circle reading the same book or selecting different choices.
These differentiated activities allow for universal access appropriate to the student's needs.
