On the following page, students are presented with a Reading Strategy which they are to apply during the reading.

Here the Reading Strategy is "Identify Main Idea and Details." Students need to understand what this means.

To scaffold that strategy, "main idea" and "details" are presented in an Academic Vocabulary chart.

This is the second vocabulary presentation of the Chapter. The explanation is straightforward, an example is given in a sample sentence, and a visual cue is provided.

Be sure your students create their own cue. The students will now have the knowledge to actually apply the strategy during the reading.
