The first Workshop is Listening and Speaking.

Here students will demonstrate oral language skills in a comprehensive activity related to the unit theme.

These oral presentations include narrative presentations, informative presentations, and persuasive speeches, for example. They are much more substantial and projects-oriented than those in the Chapters.

The Workshop Topic is presented clearly in a text box.

The steps used to complete the task are listed in sequence.

This embedded student-centered self-evaluation and assessment puts the emphasis on self-monitoring and is highly motivational.

Students are encouraged to be active listeners when others are giving oral presentations. To help ensure this, students are asked to evaluate their peers’ presentations.
