National Geographic Science

Beginning at Grade K and continuing throughout all the grade levels, multiple components and resources are designed to address the most important concepts or “Big Ideas” of science. Science Inquiry books guide students through hands-on inquiry activies, and leveled science readers provide access to fundamental concepts and also extend learning allowing students to go beyond the basics and explore concepts further on their own at reading levels appropriate for each student. Kindergarten instruction is delivered through Big Books for the main Big Ideas content and for the Inquiry. Kindergarten includes 3 modules, each containing two distinct units; Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Teacher resources include a Teacher's Edition, Assessment Handbook, and Learning Masters. Digital access is provided through myNGconnect to access all unit content, including eEditions and added access to videos, additional images, and vocabulary games.

At grades 1 and 2, the same three primary components are included; content, inquiry, and literacy. The Big Ideas content books are available in Big Book size and Student Book size. 12 units are available across Grades 1-2 to choose from in order to best match your standards or interests; 4 units in Life Science, 4 in Earth Science, and 4 in Physical Science include concepts from math and engineering integrated throughout. At grades 3 through 5, the same three primary components are included; content, inquiry, and literacy. The Big Ideas Books are split into three student books for Life, Earth, and Physical. The Science Inquiry and Writing Books include all hands-on activities as well as writing activities. Literacy development is supported through Explore On Your Own books to support the content from the Big Ideas Books.
