Content-Based Approach. The text's content-based approach provides heritage speakers with a wealth of opportunities to interact with each other as they discuss the many cultural and literary readings in each unit.

Content Equals Culture. As students discover the 21 countries that comprise the Spanish-speaking world, they gain insight into Hispanic cultures and civilizations along with their heritage, and they also achieve a global understanding of the issues and challenges faced by the Spanish-speaking world today.

Skill Development. Historical Coverage. "Los orígenes" sections give a brief overview of early cultures and civilizations occupying the regions being presented. Addressing such fascinating periods as the Roman and Moorish occupation of Spain and the Aztec, Mayan and Incan empires, this section sets the stage for delving into the current reality of each country being studied.

Language Development. "Así hablamos y así escribimos" sections provide a guide tailored for the unique challenges heritage speakers face in mastering their native language at a full, professional level.

Study Tools. Thematic vocabulary development and new point-of-use vocabulary lists are provided to highlight the most important information.

Material in Action. The "¡Luces! ¡Cámara! ¡Acción!" section provides pre- and post-viewing activities for the text-specific video and SIX new cortometrajes, or short-films, added to the program.
