Anatomy & Physiology, 1st Student Edition

LEARNER SUPPORT. Chapter 1 is dedicated to teaching learning skills and strategies in A&P. This chapter guides students through the science of learning, providing learning strategies that help them build familiarity and guides them to building mastery. This sets the foundation for learning A&P in a systemic way. Strategies and support are then carried through the text using boxed features. In addition, successful A&P students have written study tips for each chapter to give new learners useful approaches to learning the content.

Clinical examples detail the predispositions of certain racial and socioeconomic groups to display health care disparities, like sickle cell anemia. In addition, “average” values are paired with comparative data, where applicable. (For example, numbers are typically the result of measurements taken on men. Commonly used physiological averages are usually referring to Caucasian men, approximately 150 pounds who have a moderately active lifestyle.)
