The Writing Prompt is followed by the first steps of the writing process.
Students are provided with a Student Model of a descriptive essay.
The Student Model is annotated, reminding students, in a graphic way, of features and writing conventions appropriate to this assignment.
The Writing Workshop includes two Checklists for students to self-evaluate and to peer-edit, during the Edit stage of the process.
The Peer Review Checklist and the Revising and Editing Checklist empower students to engage and to assess their own work, as well as to collaborate with others in teaching and learning.
By providing specific elements to evaluate—these will vary from Unit to Unit—students have guidance to make the activity valuable.
