A Historical Look at Native Americans explains the history and traditions of four different groups of Native American people—Nez Perce, Pueblos, Iroquois, and Cheyenne—who still live in the United States today. While each of the four books focuses on a different Native American group, the same key concepts are developed across books to help students focus on the big ideas. The theme explores the history and culture of Native Americans, focusing on food, clothing, shelter, language, and traditions. It also explores the impact of trade on Native American life. Students use the specific content and vocabulary within each book to discuss and examine these big ideas, or Key Concepts. The Theme Set Program is designed for differentiated instruction. Each Theme includes four books written at four different reading levels.
