Wie geht's?, Student Text

“Zum Thema” contains lively and authentic dialogues that introduce the featured topic in each chapter. These dialogues function as models for conversation; they are not intended to demonstrate new grammar, but rather recycle previous materials and introduce new vocabulary.

The “Zum Erkennen” presents a brief list of words and phrases (intended for recognition only) from the dialogue and exercises to reinforce continuous conversation in German. The “Übungen zum Thema,” a variety of contemporary activities, follows to encourage communication and reinforce the words and phrases introduced in the dialogues.

A “Literatur” reading section occurs in every chapter of the second half of the book and includes poems, short texts, and literary excerpts, all of which were chosen to help students develop connections between language and culture. These sections are introduced by biographical data (Biographisches) about the author(s) and are then followed by pertinent pre- and post-reading questions (Vor dem Lesen / Nach dem Lesen) to build student understanding and stimulate discussion.

All literary selections from the text are recorded on the Text Audio CD bound-in with every Annotated Instructor's Edition for easy listening in the classroom.

WIE GEHT”S?, Tenth Edition, presents a well-integrated package of material that addresses speaking, listening, reading, writing, and comprehension. Combined with an introduction to life and culture in German-speaking countries today, the approach is student-oriented, manageable, and up-to-date.

“Lernziele” and “Vorschau” features serve as a brief introduction to the topics, themes, and learning goals of the chapter. They also offer statistics, notes, and cultural information on the featured German-speaking region.

NEW illustrations have been added and graph-based activities have all NEW up-to-date statistical graphs.

Five NEW literary pieces have been added: a poem by Tabea Vahlenkamp and four short stories by Jutta Strzalka, Jörg Zschocke, Evelyne Weissenbach, and Gisela Reuter.

NEW Rückschau, 2-page review at the end of each chapter. This new review section is divided into 2 parts: a cumulative Wortschatz of active vocabulary for the entire chapter on the left and a series of activities that practice the vocabulary and grammar taught in the chapter on the right.
