Welcome to Our World is a three-level pre-primary series in American English. It uses traditional children's songs from around the world, with amazing National Geographic photos and images, to introduce very young learners to the world of English.

AUTHORS
  • Jill Korey O'Sullivan

    Jill Korey O'Sullivan has worked in the fields of English as a second language and literacy acquisition as a teacher, writer, and editor. She has taught and developed materials for students of a broad range of levels and in a variety of educational settings, including kindergarten, middle school, community college, and adult education programs. Ms. Korey O'Sullivan holds a Masters Degree in Education from Harvard University.

  • Joan Kang Shin

    Dr. Joan Kang Shin is a Professor of Practice and the Director of TESOL Professional Training Programs in the Department of Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and specializes in the training and professional development of teachers of English to young learners. In this position she administers numerous online professional development programs for EFL teachers in over 100 countries, including her own courses Teaching English to Young Learners and Teaching English to Teens.

    Dr. Joan Kang Shin is an Associate Professor of Education at George Mason University and the Academic Program Coordinator of the Teaching Culturally & Linguistically Diverse & Exceptional Learners (TCLDEL) program. Dr. Shin specializes in teaching ESL/EFL to young learners and teenagers and has provided professional development programs and workshops to EFL teachers in over 100 countries around the world. She is a Series Editor of National Geographic Learning’s young learner programs Welcome to Our World, Our World, and Explore Our World, as well as the teen program Impact, and an author of the professional development title Teaching Young Learners English.

  • Dr. JoAnn (Jodi) Crandall

    Dr. JoAnn (Jodi) Crandall is Professor Emerita and former Director of the Language, Literacy and Culture Ph.D. Program, and Co-Director of the MA TESOL Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has worked in all areas of ESL/EFL including teaching, curriculum and materials development, standards development, and teacher training. She is a Series Editor of National Geographic Learning’s young learner programs Welcome to Our World, Our World, and Explore Our World, as well as the teen program Impact, and an author of the professional development title Teaching Young Learners English.

Welcome to Our World introduces very young learners to traditional children’s songs from around the world, teaching them English through music, rhythm, and motion.

Each song is performed and taught by Dr. Joan Kang Shin, as well as sung by very young learners in real classrooms for international exposure, and fully supports the language and concepts introduced in the Student Books.

To help teachers use the songs confidently in their classrooms, Teacher Video is provided, hosted by Dr. Shin, with step-by-step instructions for teaching each song to their young learners.



To ensure teachers are fully supported in their young learner classrooms, the Teacher Video also includes a Professional Development Program, with best practices for teaching English using songs and games.
